Straighten a tilted photo of a document

A page photographed at an angle becomes a straight, rectangular page, without the table in the background or slanted lines.

On your device

This tool runs in your browser. Your file is not uploaded to any server.

Photograph the ID, passport or page on a dark surface so the edges are easy to find. Photos stay on your device.

It isn't always possible to shoot a page from directly above, especially when it's pinned to a wall or lying on someone else's desk. The result is a skewed shape: narrower at the top than the bottom, slanted lines, and a strip of table showing.

This page detects the edges of the document automatically, redraws it as a straight rectangle and turns it upright. Save the result as an image or a PDF.

Rotating isn't enough

If a photo is only upside down or on its side, Rotate image is all you need. But when a page is shot at an angle, the problem is perspective: one side is closer to the camera and looks bigger. Rotation can't fix that. What fixes it is marking the four corners of the page and flattening it into a rectangle, which is what this tool does.

When the edges aren't found

Automatic detection needs contrast between the page and the surface under it. White paper on a white table, or a document with folded corners, can confuse it. In that case:

  • Drag each corner to the edge of the page; a magnifier helps you place it precisely.
  • Corners snap to a nearby edge when one is visible.
  • On a computer, nudge the selected corner with the arrow keys.

What can't be fixed

Straightening fixes the shape, not the sharpness. A blurry or shaky photo stays blurry, a cut-off part of the page doesn't come back, and strong glare over the text can't be removed. The steeper the angle, the softer the text on the far side looks after flattening. If you see that, retake the photo from a straighter angle in good light.

After straightening

For several pages in one file, use Scan to PDF. If the image is for a form with a small size limit, shrink it with Compress an image to 100 KB, or for a PDF, Compress PDF to 500 KB.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose the tilted photo

Pick the photo from your gallery or files, or take one now with the camera.

  2. 2

    Check the frame

The detected outline appears on the photo. If it doesn't match the edges, drag the corners into place.

  3. 3

    Pick size and look

Keep the detected proportions or choose A4, and pick Clean document for a lighter background.

  4. 4

    Save the result

Save the straightened page as JPG or PNG, or as a PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I straighten a photo of a page taken at an angle?

Open the photo here and the page edges are detected and straightened into a flat rectangle automatically. If detection is off, drag the four corners yourself, then save.

How is this different from a normal crop?

A normal crop cuts a rectangle out of the photo as it is, so the page stays tilted inside it. Here the corners of the page itself are marked and flattened, so the lines come out straight.

Can I fix an old photo from my gallery?

Yes. Any photo of a page, card or certificate where all four corners, or most of them, are visible can be straightened.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Detection, straightening and saving all run in your browser, and the photo never leaves your device.

Why does the text on one side look faint after straightening?

That side was farther from the camera and smaller in the original photo, so it gets stretched when the page is flattened. Shoot from a straighter angle to get clear text on every side.
