Request signatures on a PDF

Add signers' names and emails. They get a link to sign in the browser, and you receive the signed file with an audit trail.

On our server

This tool needs our server. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted right after processing.

Email delivery isn't set up yet

Signature requests reach signers by email, and email delivery isn't configured on this site yet. You can sign your own files now with Sign PDF.

How signature requests work

  1. 1. Sign in and upload

Requesting signatures needs a free account. Sign in, then choose the PDF you want signed.

  2. 2. Add signers

Enter each signer's name and email, and mark on the pages where each person should sign.

  3. 3. Send the request

We email each signer a link. They open it and sign in the browser on their phone or computer, with nothing to install.

  4. 4. Get the signed file

Track the request from your account. When everyone has signed, you get the final PDF with the audit trail.

The file is stored on our server for as long as the request exists, because signers need to open it. It is deleted for good when you delete the request.

What you get

  • Sign in the browser

Signers just open the link they receive by email and sign directly in the browser, on a phone or computer.

  • Audit trail for every step

The time of each action and the email of who took it are recorded, from sending the request to opening the link and signing.

  • Final signed PDF

When all signatures are in, you get one PDF with every signature, together with the audit trail.

  • What we store and why

Signature requests need our server, so the file is sent over an encrypted connection and we store the document, signers' names and emails, and the audit trail until the request is completed or deleted.

  • Electronic, not digital

This is an electronic signature with an audit trail, not a certificate-based digital signature. Whether it is accepted varies by country and organization.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to request signatures?

Yes. Sending and tracking signature requests needs a free account, because we keep the request and its status until it is completed. If you only want to sign a file yourself, use Sign PDF, which runs in your browser with no account.

How do other people sign?

Each signer receives an email with a link to the request. They open it in the browser on their phone or computer, place their signature where it's marked for them, and confirm.

Is this electronic signature legally valid?

We can't confirm that for every case. This is an electronic signature with an audit trail, not a certificate-based digital signature, and acceptance depends on the country, the organization and the type of document. For official documents, ask the organization which kind of signature it accepts.

What does the audit trail include?

It records the time of each action and the email of who took it, such as sending the request, opening the link and signing. You get it with the final file to show who signed and when.

What do you store, and for how long?

We store the document, signers' names and emails, and the audit trail on our server, because the request has to stay available until everyone signs. This data is kept until the request is completed or deleted, and the file is transferred over an encrypted connection.

What's the difference between Request signatures and Sign PDF?

Sign PDF is for signing a file yourself, in your browser, without uploading it. Request signatures collects other people's signatures by email, so it needs our server and a free account.

Can signers sign on their phone?

Yes. The link opens in Safari or Chrome on a phone, and they sign right on the screen with nothing to install.

Can I cancel a request I sent?

Yes. You can delete the request from your account, and the data stored for it is deleted with it.
