Frequently asked questions
How do I get an image under 100 KB?
Select the image, choose 100 KB as the target size and tap “Compress images”. If the image is very large in pixels, compression alone may not be enough; resize it first with Resize image, then compress it.
A portal rejects my photo because it is too large. What should I do?
Many portals set a maximum file size, such as 100 KB, 1 MB or 5 MB. Check the limit stated on the portal, choose it here as the target size and upload the result.
Will my photo lose quality?
Compression removes fine detail that is usually hard to notice. The smaller the target, the softer the image, so choose the largest size the portal allows and check that any text is still readable.
Are my images uploaded when I compress them?
No. The tool runs in your browser on your own device, and images are not sent to any server.
Why doesn't my PNG get much smaller?
PNG is designed to keep every detail, so files stay relatively large. If you don't need a transparent background, convert it to JPG and the file will usually be much smaller.
Can I compress HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Convert them to JPG first with Convert to JPG, since many portals don't accept HEIC anyway. Then compress them here to the size you need.
Is image compression free?
Yes. You can compress images for free without creating an account.
