Where is the file processed?

On our serverThis tool needs our server. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted right after processing.

Steps

  1. Choose your image: Tap “Select image” or drag it into the box. A clear photo showing the whole person or product works best.
  2. Remove the background: Tap “Remove background”. The image is sent to our server over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted right after processing.
  3. Check the result: Look closely at the edges around hair, shoulders and corners before downloading.
  4. Download: Download the transparent PNG, or use it in Passport & ID photo to get a white background.

What it offers

  • Fully automatic

No need to trace edges by hand. The tool picks out the person or product and removes what's around it.
  • Transparent PNG

You get a PNG you can place over any color or design.
  • Honest about privacy

This tool runs on our server: the image is sent over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted right after processing.
  • For products and portraits

Prepare clean product shots for your shop, or your portrait before putting it on a white background.

Limits

Because the file is sent to our server, there are limits on file size and number of runs, shown on the tool page. Signed-in members get higher limits for free.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded?

Yes, background removal needs server processing. The image is sent to our server over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted right after processing; we don't keep a copy.

How do I get a white background instead of transparent?

For official portraits, use Passport & ID photo, which removes the background, adds white and sets the size in one go. Otherwise, place the transparent image over any color in a design app.

The edges around hair look wrong. Why?

Fine edges like loose hair, or a background close in color to the clothes, are harder to separate. Try a better-lit photo with a background that contrasts with the subject.

Why is the result a PNG and not a JPG?

JPG doesn't support transparency, so the result is saved as PNG. If you need a JPG, convert it afterwards and the background will turn white.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Open the page in Chrome or Safari and pick a photo from your gallery or camera.

Is it free?

Yes. You can remove backgrounds for free without creating an account.
