Where is the file processed?

Mostly on your deviceThis tool runs on your device, except the option noted below, which uses our server and deletes the file right after.

The file is unlocked in your browser first. Only if your browser can't open it are the file and password sent to our server over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted right after processing.

Steps

  1. Choose your PDF: Tap “Select PDF file” or drag the protected file into the box, from your phone or computer.
  2. Enter the password: Type the password you know, the same one you'd use to open the file in any reader.
  3. Unlock: Tap “Unlock”. It runs in your browser; if that isn't possible our server is used and the file is deleted right after processing.
  4. Download: Download the unprotected copy and keep it somewhere safe, since it no longer has a password.

What it offers

  • Only for passwords you know

The tool needs the correct password. We don't try to guess or crack passwords.
  • Browser first

Most files are unlocked in your browser without being uploaded. Our server is used only for files your browser can't open.
  • Ready to merge and compress

Once unlocked, you can merge, compress or convert the file without tools stopping at the password.
  • Content unchanged

Only the protection is removed; pages, text and images stay the same.

Limits

The tool runs on your device, so the largest file it can handle depends on your device's and browser's memory. Very large files can take longer on phones.

Frequently asked questions

I forgot the password. Can you open the file?

No. This tool doesn't guess or crack passwords; it only works when you enter the correct one. If an organization sent you the file, ask them for the password or an unprotected copy.

My bank statement came with a password. What is it usually?

Many banks and companies explain how the password is formed in the email itself or in their terms, for example part of your account number or your date of birth. Check the message or ask the sender.

Is my file uploaded?

Usually not: the file is unlocked in your browser. Only if your browser can't open it are the file and password sent to our server over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted right after processing.

Is this legal?

Removing the password from a file you own or are allowed to use, and whose password you know, is routine. Don't use the tool on files you aren't entitled to open.

Why remove the password at all?

Some portals reject protected files, and merge and compress tools need an open file. It also saves you typing the password every time.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It runs in Safari and Chrome on phones without installing an app.

Is it free?

Yes. You can unlock files for free without creating an account.
