Safha is a set of PDF and image tools built Arabic-first. It is made and run by akkadX (akkadX LLC). You can learn more about the company and its work at akkadx.com.

We want people in Iraq and across the region to have tools that understand their language and respect their privacy: tools that merge your documents, compress a file to the size a portal asks for, and get your photo to an official size, from your phone and without fuss.

  • 58tools for files and images
  • 34tools run fully on your device

Why we process your files on your device

The files people prepare for online applications are not ordinary files. They are national IDs, passports, residence cards, certificates, transcripts and contracts. Documents like these shouldn't be uploaded to servers you know nothing about just because you want to merge them or make them smaller.

That's why most of our tools run inside your browser. The file is opened and processed on your device, you download the result, and the file is never sent to any server.

Which tools use our server, and why

Some tasks need heavy software, fonts or libraries that don't run well in a browser, especially on a phone. With these tools, your file is sent to our server over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted right after processing. Every tool carries a badge that shows where your file is processed before you choose it.

  • Tools that always use the server

    • Office conversions: Word, PowerPoint and Excel to PDF, and PDF to Word, PowerPoint and Excel. These need full office software to keep the layout intact.
    • OCR: reading Arabic, English and Persian text from scanned files takes a lot of processing power.
    • Remove background and Upscale image: these need heavy image processing that isn't suited to a browser, especially on a phone.
    • Web page to PDF or image: we need a browser on the server to open the page and capture it.
    • Repair PDF and PDF to PDF/A: these need specialized tools to rebuild the file's structure.
  • Tools that run on your device, with one option that uses the server

    • Compress PDF: the normal levels run on your device; the Strong level uses the server.
    • Passport & ID photo: cropping and sizing run on your device; making the background white uses the server.
    • Convert to JPG: most formats run on your device; formats such as HEIC and TIFF may need the server if your browser can't open them.
    • Unlock PDF, Protect PDF and Redact PDF: these usually run on your device, and fall back to the server for some files that can't be handled in the browser.
    • PDF to Markdown: runs on your device; scanned files need OCR on the server.
  • Tools that use AI

    • Summarize PDF and Translate PDF: these tools use AI: the text is extracted from your file and sent over an encrypted connection to a third-party AI provider for processing. We don't keep the file or the text after processing. We recommend not using them for highly sensitive documents, and reviewing the result before you rely on it.
  • A feature where we keep your data for a while

    • Request signatures: when you ask others to sign a document, we store the document, the signers' names and emails, and a record of when each action happened, until the request is completed or you delete it. The reason is simple: the request passes through several people and can take days. This feature needs a free account.

Workflows and the installable app

If you repeat the same steps, such as merge, then compress, then add page numbers, you can save them as a workflow and run it on new files in one go. This needs a free account, and we save only the workflow settings, never your files. Each step follows its own tool's rule: on-device steps run in your browser, and server steps work as described above.

You can also install Safha as an app on your computer or phone, open it straight from your home screen, and use on-device tools offline once they've loaded the first time.

Arabic first

Safha is built for people who read and write Arabic: the interface runs right to left, the edit, sign and watermark tools show Arabic text with connected letters, and you can number pages with Arabic-Indic digits.

We're also clear about what we can't guarantee. How well an Arabic PDF converts to Word depends on how the PDF was made, and scanned files need OCR first. Always check a result before you submit it to any official body.
